Saying Goodbye to Dinoland USA at Walt Disney World Resort: A Nostalgic Farewell Before the Renovation

Hello, Friends!
As of mid-January 2025, Dinoland USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has officially closed its doors to begin its exciting transformation into the Tropical Americas land. While we’re looking forward to what’s to come—including attractions themed to Encanto and Indiana Jones—it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to such a unique and cherished part of Walt Disney World Resort. Earlier this year, we made a special trip to the Dino land area to relive old memories and bid farewell to this quirky corner of Animal Kingdom.
A Look Back at Dinoland USA

Dinoland USA has always been a place of fun and whimsy, where prehistoric theming met carnival vibes. It was a favorite spot for our family when my kids were younger. We loved heading back there to enjoy Donald’s Dino-Bash!, take a spin on TriceraTop Spin, and let the kids burn off energy climbing and exploring in the Boneyard playground.

Of course, we can’t talk about Dinoland USA without mentioning Primeval Whirl, the spinning roller coaster that once brought laughter and screams to Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama. Unfortunately, the ride closed in early 2020, initially due to safety concerns, and was then permanently shuttered as COVID-19 changed park operations. It was demolished in late 2021, marking the beginning of major changes in the area.
As of January 2025, Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama has officially closed, and while Dinosaur and the Boneyard playground will remain open a bit longer, the rest of Dinoland USA is preparing for its transformation.
A Memorable PhotoPass Experience with Chip ‘n’ Dale Chipmunk-o-saurus at Donald’s Dino-Bash!
One of the standout moments during our visit was the adorable PhotoPass experience with Chip and Dale Chipmunk-o-saurus. These mischievous chipmunks were an absolute delight to meet, and the experience was well worth the wait. Honestly, it was one of the most fun character interactions I’ve had, second only to the unforgettable encounter with Edna Mode. But what made this extra special was how Chip ‘n’ Dale engaged my 13-year-old. They got her genuinely smiling and giggling—a rare accomplishment for any teenager!

Looking Ahead to Tropical Americas

While saying goodbye to Dinoland USA may be emotional for some, the promise of the new Tropical Americas land has us excited for what’s next. Disney has announced that this new area will include attractions and experiences inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones, blending the cultural vibrancy of Latin America with the adventure and wonder we’ve come to expect from Animal Kingdom.
As fans of both franchises, we’re thrilled to see how Disney will bring these stories to life in a way that connects with the park’s dedication to celebrating nature, culture, and exploration.
Final Farewell

Our final day in Dinoland USA was filled with nostalgia as we soaked in every detail of this beloved area. From spinning around on TriceraTop Spin to playing games and exploring Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures one last time, we cherished every moment.
While Dinoland USA will always hold a special place in our hearts, we can’t wait to see what the future holds. Here’s to the next chapter of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the magic it will bring to all of us.
Thank you for the memories, Dinoland—you’ll be missed!
